Vmath en Español Available Fall 2009
DALLAS, August 6, 2009— Voyager Expanded Learning® announced today it will make its math intervention program, Vmath® available in Spanish for students nationally in grade two, as well as for students in grades three through five in Texas. The new Spanish versions, titled Vmath en Español and Vmath Texas Edition en Español, will give Spanish-speaking students who struggle the opportunity to access a math intervention program that provides them with a better chance of achieving success in math.
Similar to the English version, the Spanish version of Vmath blends teacher-led instruction and student-centered technology, but provides student materials translated especially for Spanish-speaking students. The built-in assessment system monitors student progress and forecasts student success on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test (TAKS). Spanish-speaking students will increase the time they spend learning math, which results in greater proficiency in math and higher achievement on TAKS.
Spanish-speaking students will also be able to utilize the online math technology component, VmathLive® which provides additional math practice and reinforces concepts and skills taught in the print materials. While using VmathLive, students will also have access to the program's newest feature, the Spanish/English Animated Math Dictionary. The Spanish/English Animated Math Dictionary supports the needs of English Language Learners, helps with their transition from Spanish to English and supports the acquisition of academic vocabulary.
"Vmath is a great instructional program that provides students the basic learning tools in a building, sequential order to be successful in math, especially when they have to meet state standardized test expectations," says Sergio Baca, a Bilingual Teacher in the El Paso Independent School District. "I truly believe in the program. In fact, I have all my students doing it, not just as an intervention program."
